Not long ago I asked my Instagram friends about their favorite children's books and unexpectedly came up with a list of the best teen-girl books. If you're not a teen anymore but still haven't read these, I still recommend each one of them!
Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter
It's my favorite book that tells a story about "the game of joy" and teaches you how to see blessings in any circumstances.
A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
The book tells you that rich imagination and a kind heart can save you during hard times. And also that "princess" is not a title but a state of your soul!
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
This is a novel about disciplining your soul and character that often reminds an overgrown garden and requires a lot of effort though brings great fruit.
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery
It's a whole series of books that shows you the life of a girl - about family, friendship, and love. There you can find disciplining of character, rich imaginations, and everything else that a girl would want to read about!
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
I would say that this book is about sisterhood and about growing up. And also about how you can help each other overcome difficulties even if you're very different. And a little bit about love.
Heidi by Johanna Spyri
A book about great love for the mountains. And also about kindness and forgiveness, and about how love can move mountains.
Elsie Dinsmore by Martha Finley
The book tells you that inner strength to overcome any difficulty you can get from Jesus and that even a child can receive it.
From my personal recommendations, I can add a few more books:
Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson
From Anna and Listen to the Singing by Jean Little
Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret by Judy Blume
For the older girls I also recommend Francine Rivers and especially her series called Mark of the Lion and The Lineage of Grace.
Feel free to save the list and share your own recommendations and experience!
